Jaromír Kocourek strávil své dětství v blízkosti jihomoravského města Kyjova, kde se narodil v dubnu 1948. V roce 1967 absolvoval na Škole uměleckých řemesel v Brně. Jeho učitelem byl malíř Milan Zezula, který byl jeho blízkým přítelem a kmotrem jeho synů. Ve škole se také setkal s přáteli, se kterými hrál na kytaru v hudební kapele. Hudba se promítá i do jeho obrazů. Od roku 1974 žije v Brně, kde působil v divadle a kde několikrát vystavoval své obrazy. Od roku 1992 maloval pro galeristu z Kodaně.
Ze širokého spektra jeho oblíbených malířů na techniku jeho malby měli největší vliv renesančni a barokní malíři a na obsah expresionisté a surrealisté. V obrazech s osobnostmi ze světa umění, s mytologickými náměty i ze světa jeho fantazie, jsou většinou ukryty alegorické podtexty a pointy. Podle názvů obrazů by se lidem, kteří sledují rockovou hudbu mohlo zdát, že jde o ilustrace písní. Tyto vypůjčené názvy jsou u většiny obrazů návodem k rozluštění těchto tajemství a s obsahem písní nemají žádnou spojitost. Tento výběr obrazů z posledních let z jeho více než čtyřicetileté činnosti je jen malou ukázkou z jeho tvorby.

Jaromir Kocourek spent his childhood close to south moravian town Kyjov, where he was born on april 1948. In 1967 he graduated at The school of art crafts in Brno. His teacher was painter Milan Zezula who was a close friend of him and godfather of his sons. At the school he also met friends with who he enjoyed to play the guitar in music band. And music shows in his paintings. Since 1974 he lives in Brno, where he worked in the theatre and where several times exhibited his paintings. SInce 1992 he painted for gallerist from Copenhagen.
He loves many painters. The renaissance and baroque painters are his teachers of the technique and expressionists and surrealists influenced the contents of his paintings. In the paitings with personalities of the art world, with subjects of mythology and also from the world of his imagination are mostly hidden allegorical meanings and points of jokes. From the names of paintings the people who follows the rock music can think, that his paitings are illustraions of the songs. These borrowed names are directions for the solution those mysteries and mostly there is no connection with the contents of the songs. The selection of paitings from last years of his more than forty years lasting aktivity shows only small part of his work.
